    Hi all,

I am in the process of setting up a hardscape (no or very little plants) tank for housing plecos.

As all my previous setups had plants, I would like some advice from the bros here on how to maintain a hardscape setup.

I understand that one of the more important steps is to ensure that the tank setup is properly cycled with an establishment of the BB.

The BB will break down any ammonia in the water into nitrates (or was it something else) if I am not wrong, and this nitrates will then be absorbed by the plants. Given that I have no plants this time, does it mean that I have to perform extra frequent WCs?

    ok...
Alot of water changes to start. Also make sure the rocks you are using do not leach; a test kit can monitor this.

A good filtration and flow rate is needed. As for water parameter, try to create a buffer (kh) so as to prevent ph crashes. You may also think of adding peat as a filter media to lower the ph or hide the bag of peats behind your rockscape.
