New setup 4.5ft planted tank

Hi all, finally manage to set up my 4.5ft tank which was bought months ago Heres what I did for the tank...

1. Peat moss as base with ADA soil on top.

2. Tried making a slope towards the inner right corner.

3. View from the front.

4. Added rocks and more soil.

5. Free labour helping me top up water. Notice the plastic sheets used to prevent milky water?

6. Partial water in tank.

7. Start planting hairgrass and don't know what plants for the background.

8. Side veiw.

9. Half tank water.

Completed Any advise on how to improve? Need to know how much CO2 to pump as well. Thanks in advance.

Last year i remembered you had started a small 1FT, upgraded to a 4.5ft ? Tank looks sparingly planted to me. Are you going to add more plants in the next couple of weeks ?

Ya... I have a 1ft cube tank and another 3ft tank. Both are still in use and will decomm the 3ft once the big tank is ready for my faunas. Thinking of adding more plants but not sure what to put in. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Resting the light set on the braces of the tank is a bad idea. They might fail for all you need to know and who knows when.

You can add anubias and tied them to smaller rocks around the big rock for more effect as well as add in more larger rocks.

I dun have a choice as the light set is only 4ft and the tank is 4.5ft. Unless I get a 5ft lightset which looks kinda ugly as it protrudes out. and by resting on the braces, it allows me to put back the tank cover. Thanks for the advice anyway.

As for plants, will be heading down to the farm again to get more plants. The rocks is a real headache. I had a hard time putting it into the tank as it weights almost 20kg. May have to look for several smaller piece and put them in together instead.

Since peter have already pointed out, you might want to get some diy mount for your lights.

I'm considering getting rid of the top cover and custom make a light stand. Hope that can reduce water temp as well.

You can actually DIY the lights into the tank cover. There should be some guide posted some time back. You might want to take a look.

Been reading your postings on Bubberis' tank thread... yes you can add 1 more piece of rock actually coz your current layout suggests separation

Its better to position the filter's inlet to the other back corner of the tank. This is to minimise spots of stagnant water flow which can encourage algae growth. Fix a rain bar under water, this will create more uniform flow.

maybe u can add more rocks and try to cover more area of the rock with the subtrate. will look more nautral when the hg starts to spread, another thing is i feel the hg too thick already. a few strands on a spot will do. this way it will spread better.

Haha... Thats what I thought too. Should have reduce the number on one spot. Had to throw away lots more due to leftovers. What you mean by "cover more area of rock with subtrate?
