    Can't get my Tetra External Filter to work!?

    Hook up everything and at the part where the instruction manuel cited to "pump start button repeatedly and in quick succession with the palm of your hand until the Ex filter starts pumping water" but I pump until my palm red the hose is still not sucking in the tank water...

    Anyone pls.

    me yesterday night when setting up my plant tank too facing with the same problems bought this filter from a fellow forumer. then it build up too much pressure and start to flood my room.
    I am going to get a Ehiem 2224 today at NA. I got no problem using ehiem for more around 10 years.

    if the problem is with the canister having difficulty sucking in water from tank thru the in-hose, for the very first time, then maybe before start you try pour water into the in-hose to fill in as much as possible. That will help

    did you manage to get the ehiem? Chan did recommend a $180 ehiem but in the end I went for the Tetra cos I went for the outlook instead.

    woke up early today and I tried pouring the water in but still the same, then as I was about to give up I thought of switching the inlet and outlet hose and voila it is working fine now.

    Yap i did get the ehiem after all. atleast i know for long term, it is future prove

    It is probably air lock. What I do with canister filter is put the inlet in the fish tank and the outlet in the bucket. Suck the water until it flow from the fish tank to the bucket. Wait until the canister all fill up and start flowing to the bucket, give little bit of shake to force out the air trap inside the canister. Worked everytime

    Glad it is working now. Could be the slack in the inlet hose that's causing the problem. Too much slack and siphon effect cannot be created to fill up the cannister.
