I have not use it on a freshwater tank yet. But it's possible if the moonlight is too bright.
I recently bought a hydor moonlight (horizontal version, without pump).
it is very very nice. I decided to enjoy the shadow cast by my wave making pump (legacy from marine fish days), and on it from 11pm to 5am.
tonight is the first night and some of the larger fish doesnt seems to be getting any sleep.
does anyone else here switch on moonlights ? do u see any adverse effect on the fish when we keep it on for long hours (after lights out) ?

as u said first night, perhaps they are not used to it. (it's not really natural moonlight) they may percieve it threatening. Try giving it a few days and they'll ignore it and get to sleep.
nice! I do certainly hope they (bigger barb) get used to it soon.
the tiger barbs go to sleep easily, and are seen in the usual floating 45degree.
Ive had moonlight thru blue led in my coolermaster fan couple of weeks back. Though i can use it to observe them at night, i do find them active and awake sometimes. Ive removed it since.
able to post any pic of your tank with the moon light on?
How big is your tank? I would change the timing to an earlier part of the night and reduce the hours too. You said you are using a wave maker? What kind of fish are you keeping? I don't think most freshwater fishes can handle that.
the wave maker are there for convenient. They help me clear up any potentially "dead" area.
I do have pic of the tank on facebook, but not one with the moonlights on. Will update once I take pic
thanks for infomation
Although i don't use a conventional 'moonlight' my stereo system (which is ALWAYS turned on) has a blue glow around the volume control. Very random this seems i know. But let me say it is rather bright. And in the generously sized bedroom of mine it allows me to see my tank even when its the only source of light in my room. Despite not being clearly visible, you can make out rocks, plants, fish and even water movement from the powerhead. My fish have never been adversely affected by this light and it enables me to see my clown loaches and plecs feeding at night. My tetras can also be seen at floating above the substrate clearly inactive through the night 'resting'. So my point being is that myself and my fish can get a good nights sleep without any disturbance from the 'blue light/glow'.
As for this 'wave' idea, how easy is this to implement in a tank? And is it very costly? I may follow this idea up and see what i can achieve in my tank. Thanks

the wave maker is pump that generate "wave". In the marine tank world, we have controller that turn it on and off at certain interval to simulate the tides, and to create turbulence.
Interesting to know that wave maker can be used in planted tank. I do believe that using it can really minimize dead spot and creat a better environment for the fauna to thrive.
Just wonder what brand of wave maker suitable for planted, Tunze Stream (had one in my previuos marine set up) is definitely too strong huh bro? What about Hydro Koralia wavemaker? Anyone tried that?
4ft Planted Tank (approx. 500L incl sump)
Equipment:
4x2x2.5 12mm Tank with Sump. 4x55W 6,700K T5. Eheim 1262 Return. Hailea 300A Chiller. 5L CO2 with JBJ Solenoid Regulator. Lapis Sand with JBL Base Fert.
or the alternative is to aim 2 power head at odd angles to each other. too much wave isnt good for some fish. use those low power ones at 5dollars. it may just be enough to see your long grass waver
Yes, didnt think of that initially, to caught up in the 'oooh i want waves' mind-set haha. I have blue opaline gouramis, may have to give it a miss. Seeing as though they like to breathe from the surface quite alot.
Definately an idea to think about in my future new tank, or adapt into my current on in a few years i think.

So not really need wave maker (at least not those strong one use in Marine tank) for planted?
I am kinda like the idea of having less dead spot using wave maker actually...
