What is 'SL'? Do you know what is the survival rate to reach 2cm? Interesting..
...not at home but commercially.
Met this Singaporean recently who runs a nursery for Kim Bak Lor or sea bass. What he does is import eggs from SL, & he hatches them in his farm. Say he buys 1m eggs at 1 cts each; he hatches these & raise them to 2cm & he sells them to fish farm (like the one operated by NTUC at Tekong) for $1. He makes gross profit margin of 99%. Fish farm will raise these 2cm SB to say, 16cm & sell at retail prices of $8.

Guess he means Sri Lanka? But of course its not smooth sailing. There are risks like every business. And the operation costs in Singapore is ridiculous.
It's not 99% profit, you have to add in holding cost, shipping cost, feeds, maintenance, manpower, packaging and other overheads too.
99% profit means buy 1 cent and sell 1.99 cents. If you are selling at 1 dollar, you are making 99x 100% proft :P
Profit margins is 100% max ..... but there are no such biz unless there is no cost.
Actually, he mentioned survival rATE under normal circumstances of the eggs is about 25%. So 1m eggs, means 50% hatched, and another 50% of the hatched will survive till 2cm where they ARE sold. These fellows are sensitive to Ph changes.
But if Johor floods, then survival = 0 because of chemical spills into their water supplies. So do not eat Kims during flooding season due to contamination.
