Am thinking of getting some recepticle for storing/ageing water for my tanks. I believe I have seen something like a plastic barrel (blue color) being used before.

Those water cooler containers will do as well...

    Anyone using these?

Anyone know where to get them?

    Savant,
    They are a good idea.
    Size is large enough etcetera...
But do consider running a powerhead or airstone.
If it ends up as stale water I suggest you do the direct tap water to tank with an overdose of anti-chlorine.

I recall seeing them sold in AF forum before.
They are a good 45 gallon or so to my recollection.
If you get them from a company make sure you sterilize them before use.
They are actually used to store chemicals.
Not a good mix for fish...

The way I do it now (v leh chey) is to fill up pails and then drip in the anti chlorine before pouring in the pail. U can imagine how tiring that is.

Am concerned that piping in direct from the tap will kill off the BB even before the anti chlorine is added given the fears that rinsing filter media quickly with tap water will kill off all the BB(although I have a theory that if you only tap in 20-30 percent it will be fine as the chlorine will be dilluted by the 70 percent old water - we arent using swimming pool water afterall)...

Actually depending on the percentage of water change you do each time, you can get another suitable sized tank as a water holding tank.

You can use Toyogo storage boxes, those rectangular types, with wheels.
By the way, I read that most water conditioner works instantenously. Meaning they will remove Chlorine and Chloramine immediately. Not sure how true this is though.

My own practice is, I usually add the water conditioner into my tank first, before adding water directly from tap.

I got a sump below the tank. I switch off the return pump. suck out all the water in 2 compactment of my sump (leaving the filter compactment wet).

Add tap water, add anti-chlorine. Wait for 30 minutes, turn return pump on.

yes, pail and bucket is the same thing. I just use ziplock and wrap it to prevent evaporation.

In case you are still looking, I drove past this shop today with the blue containers and many "jerry can" type plastic containers or various sizes. The name of the shop is L&H Global at 247 Jalan Besar, just before Kitchener Road (I think), on the way down to town.

    Hi all,
I bought 3 white pails off yahoo auctions at that time. But its no longer there online. Its about 10l each. So I fill them up, coverered it & stored for 2 days then change, then fill it up & cover them again for the next change.
You can place an air stone to quicken it, as told by Chan from NA. But if you leave, 2 days is good enough.
I would always see brown stains at the bottom of my white pails after storing for 2 days. Then I just sprayed / wipe them off before refilling. Felt good after seeing those as I know the impurities settled down & what I'm pouring into the tank is good water for my fishes.
