    wanted to confirm if peat(for lowering pH) if placed under GeX soil, will it be able to lower water pH and also not stain the water?

    I don't think there's a way for peat, on its own,to lower pH without staining.

    yea.. thats what i think so too..just want to see if theres anyway to lower pH till 5.5 - 6.o but at the same time water don't stain..

    maybe putting in a bag of ADA africana under the GeX soil will help?

    sera black peat granules doesnt really stain...

    can give it a try...

    Horti-Moss, a brand of peat moss available from the gardening section of NTUC doesn't really stain the water too (I place them in a filter bag for brewing herbal soup and throw the bag into the water). The 4 boraras and 1 low grade CRS I had initially are still surviving in the water.

    thanks bros.. so does it stains at all? because im having a heavily planted tank as well.. don't think its nice to have brownish water or even slightly brown water...

    i solved my high ph problem by co2 injection- big plus on plants and no tannings whatsoever- 'twas 7.5 to 8's now 6.4-6.6 steady (even 6.2 at nights w/o the lights) the discus loves it
    easy to make- cheap too!!
