the problem is that it could be due to anything...there's too many potential causes. I can only troubleshoot one at a time. Will update in due course.
I am no shrimp expert like Silane, but I had the similar problem when started with CRS. I was using ADA amazonia soil, and introduced CRS after few months later and CRS died after few weeks time. I tried four rounds across 1 year period, until it stabilized. My cherry shrimp were fine, but not spawning fast.
Even though it stabilized more than 1 year, my CRS were not spawning until I switched from fan to chiller.

Mine is a low tech tank. No fert and no co2.
i had a similar case about 2 months back, CRS die slowly.....
try changing water every 4 days still the same, add active carbon still the same, in the end find out that the plants started to rot at the roots, all go the plant and left with the moss and now finally able to see 2 mummy CRS......

hi, interesting point you raised. Because i noticed some of my plants leaves turning yellowish.
I'll be monitoring the effectiveness of AC for another week see if death reduces. So far for 5 days, got 2 crs and 1 cherry deaths.....
by the way wsw, when you uprooted your plants, the soil's bound to be disturbed. Did it cause any harm to the shrimps?

yes, more deaths occurs but after one week it seem that the death rate slow down alot and 2nd week....notice there was no more death......
i believe when YOU up roots the plant that will be some kinds of water parameter surge.
good luck

Any figures to the new & old soil?
Did you cycle your tank to begin with? I didnt cycle my tank when i started and for the first 4-6 weeks, any kind of shrimp i put in died. Not immediately, but 2 or 3 would up the lorry everyday unitl the whole population would be dead. After abt 8 weeks, I had almost no casualties. Perhaps this is a possibility? If you think this might be the problem, then do a 20% water change twice a week with aged water. This will help remove excess ammonia and nitrites in the water.
some updates...2nd week of using AC everything goes on smoothly with no casualties till the end of the 2nd week suddenly 3 shrimps died in a day. I suspected that its time to remove the AC and change 10% of the water. Four days have passed so far so good....touch wood hope everything settled.![]()
