I have very very sad news to report... I found the male Apisto died this morning
I am now chatting with AQ members hoping to find an explanation... it's really really sad![]()
thats very sad news.. he was such a beauty.. so sorry for your lost..![]()
Sorry to hear on the lost, one of the downside in keeping apistos is losing one of the pair..understand that the female seems a little bloated, better observe the girl closer.

Agree with Ken, but apisto does this all the time. Anyway the good side is, got reason to buy another. For that purpose must have another tank to house the lone femaleAnother purpose to setup one more tank.
I think most apisto keepers here experience that regularly till we're quite numb to it. Not all is lost, have faith with them. One day you will understand why it takes good water parameters for keeping them & eventually find the solution.
At lease you capture the prime of it's life & can always share his beauty down the road. So not all is lost. There are quite a few avid apisto keepers among us, do ask more question on apisto. We're here to help![]()
Apisto alone can be a major subject spoken upon & the details of keeping them can be quite interesting like doing planted tank from scratch.
Feel free to let us know or if you want can PM anyone of us privately.
Cheers!
Cheers!

She seems fine... maybe she ate too much that morning.
Thanks Benetay for the kind words... come to think of it... I think I am more suited to keeping plants. At least plants will take a few days to totally melt away with warning signs in advance... fish death is way too sudden... just like life itself![]()
Don't give up completely on Apistos, believe it or not, many of us been through this before...just be more selective and attempt to breed them, the joy of seeing the parent fish caring for its young makes the pain more bearable...![]()
