from flying planes, to planting underwater plants
If the use of carbon is only for a short period of time (till water clears) then it's more economical to use common activated carbon. Yes adding beneficial bacteria will help as well. I will definitely do both if faced with similar situation.
was introduced bamboo charcoal by a lfs and was told they absorb nutrients to a certain level and then form a good home for beneficial bacteria this in term increases your colony ( which logically speaking increasing your biological scrubbing ) deduced this myself haha might be wrong though.
Finally back to the Aquatic world!
Thank you all for your replies. I found out that one of our ADA suppliers carries the bamboo charcoal. I will look into it. For now, I changed the pads in my Eheim and added a bag of Black Diamond carbon. Today is water change day and I may change a bit more than usual. When you say add beneficial bacteria, what do you use? I don't believe anything warm on a shelf has the right bacteria. There are a few refridgerated products available.

Are those algae or moss growing on the rock surface? Looks like algae... but natural looking![]()
The ..I call it 'pink' plant, is ludwigia pantanal. I had to look low and high for it. Like the eriocaulons, it needs high light, CO2, and soft water.{it's my new favorite!}
Yes, algae..I like it.Thanks for the kind words.

love the tank and the pencil fish!![]()
Wow Waterfaller1 this is really interesting to see how it has evolved! Looking GREAT! Has the cloud cleared up?
Thanks for the compliments. Yes, finally it has cleared. I had some problems, and did lose most of that beautiful pink plant. I am getting more soon, as I figured out what the problems were. I had lost a few fish, I believe because at night the O2 level was dropping too much. I am now pulling the lily pipe up at night to make excess surface movement. This is helping to oxygenate the water, and also remove the surface slick from proteins. I found the slick was seriously impeding the amount of light reaching the plants. It was very silvery/white. Now I have changed the filter to a larger one, instead of 2234 ecco, it has a Classic 2215. I added a bag of Purigen. And with clearing the surface..now the plants are coming back.I took out all the R. indica from the front and have added HC. I am also getting some red E. tenellus, and some L. Roraima next week. I will see which one I like in the foreground. I also added some L. Arcuata where the Pantanal was to fill in that empty spot. The colorata has filled in nice, and has grown to the surface. It needs a serious trim.My blyxa is becoming way too big. I wish they stayed smaller.
Route, those are Coral Red Pencilfish~Nannostomus-mortenthaleri. I really love them, they are very nice. One male is very brilliant red.
This is the most recent tank shot~Note the missing plants

It is looking exquisite
I have one suggestion though. That white path in the center looks great. Just one question is the brown sand right in front on the white path put there on purpose, if not, it would look great if it was a clean white path, what do you all think?
And the Pencil Fish is a great looking specimen, I wanted to add them as well, but I find them a tad bit aggressive and I don't want any fish pecking at my Fei Fong who I swear looks like Angelina Jolie, heh heh
