I hope to replace the basket intake of my 2028 filters with the sponge types to prevent fishes/shrimps from being sucked onto the intakes... So far scouting abt C328 only yielded confusion as to what exactly to buy...

Can any kind and experienced bros advise me on where I can buy the sponge and if it has a brand, what brand /model number should it be?

    Thanks in advance...

    Bro,

if you are looking for those sponge to put at your eheim inlet from blocking the shrimplets from sucking in. You can get those round sponge filter with a hole in the middle. No brand is require any kind will do. They are very cheap some come in black and some in yellow or white. You can get at any lfs...

If you are worry the sponge doesn't do the job, the other way is tied nylon stockings(get those old/ruined ones from your wife or girl friends) to the inlet, though can be unsightly, depending on how well you can tied it, the nettings are finer and shrimplets will not be suck in.

You can also use those window shades for cars that are black in colour which could look better.

I am also looking for a similar kind. Is there a type that only has the opening on one side, instead of the hollow type shown? i'm intending to use it to slot the inlet into the sponge and cover the inlet.

You can try cutting a bit off the sponge and then using the extra sponge to plug into the open end of the sponge itself.... it should work provided you cut a bit larger to squeeze into the sponge thus ensuring no holes created to let your shrimplets go through

actually its not shrimplets I am worried abt... In my hardscape tank, the currents are very strong and sometimes fish get swept near the filter intake when they sleep at night... and get pulled in...

thus if you use the method i suggested, no fish should get in.... the sponge should also not get loose as the water current should keep pulling it in all the time...

maybe you can try without the fish in the tank for a few hours and see how is the effect?
