(1) For a 3 feet planted tank, a cannister will be better.
(2) UV will kill everything that is water-borne. BB in substrate, rocks, DWs, filter will not be affected.
(3) UV treats green water. I will still need to watch your water parameters.

hmm, just to check, is anyone using a UV hang on filter for their tanks? any comments on their performance?
saw from seaview that it's selling for $40+ but not sure if it's really effective for green water. It seems suitable for those with small tanks.
Hi all, I've been using it since the day I've posted the post. All I can say is after using it for a few days, I tried shutting the UV light off as I didn't see any difference. BUT I started to have cloudy water. I turned it on again & it became clear. I can say its an added safety net for me on water bourne diseases but I can't say much to my power bill as its an added usage![]()
it is only few watts more maybe 9W or 13W depending on the model. Shouldn't increase your bill that much.
Hi,
I'm having serious trouble finding a UV hang on filter for a 6 gallon Fluval edge. i have external UV filters running on larger tanks but the flow it way too strong for my smaller tank.
Any ideas or links would be much appreciated!

Does anyone know where I can get a hang-on filter with two compartments (without UV light)? The type where the vertical inlet tube is between the two compartments.
So far, I have only seen the common single-compartment type.
