Have anyone use CO2 tablets before?

Yesterday was at C328, saw a some boxes of Ocean Free CO2 Tablets. It is suppose to dissolve in the water and produce CO2. One tablets every two days.

In the box is 48 tablets price at $8.00. Is this useful? CAn i use this instead of using canister tank?

This is useful, to a certain extent. There are some plants which require cannister tank. I have used this before, and found that although cannister cost more initially, but in the long run you will save much more. I suggest getting a cannister tank.

    cheers

Hi, I'd previously bought a box also (more expensive than yours at $10... )

Anyway, tried it in my 2-feet tank, but it's useful only to a certain extent as mentioned by Magic4lifez... If yours is a heavily planted tanks with plants that requires high light & CO2, then maybe these tablets may not be enough... (May need to invest in those pressurized CO2 tank sets...)

Another thing to take note, the tablet will break down into some whitish particles & may float in your water column... Ok if you dun mind temporary unsightful tank with white stuffs swimming around...

Yes it is very unsightly, those particles will turn black. Also, most plants need co2 that is dissolved and spread all around the tank.

Better invest in a cannister filter

If you don't want to spend a little after that regret in the end then go for cylinder co2 tank. You will definately not regret.

Tell yourself this, every 2 hour you have to insert a tablet and you got to buy more packets to store it and you have to time and throw a tablet every 2 hours or you want to just turn on the cylinder let it run and control by timer sit there relax and watch your fish and plants?

Like you mention 48 tablets in a pack you can calculate 1 month you will spend how much as compare to a cylinder.

This hobby is interesting but dont make yourself like a slave to it.

co2 tablets are not consistant, i wont waste time with it. If you have a planted tank, invest or get a 2nd hand co2 system, you wouldnt regret it.

it's not two hours every tablet, it's two days once.
actually having been thinking of getting one cylinder but have heard those scary stories that it might leak or even explode...

co2 cylinders are not flammable, even if it leaks it wouldnt explode. However if you are worried, might want to get tanks from reputable LFS such as Nature aquarium and requests for new tanks.

Try CO2 tablet before, it does not work. Seachem excel worked better.

Get those black and white CO2, I was told by the NA uncle that it is life time warranty.

'Seachem Excel' is a liquid version of Carbon supplement for dosing into planted tanks... Easily available at most LFSs... Personally, I had stopped using my CO2 tablets from OceanFree ever since I started using Seachem Excel...

    wk,
your tank only has ferns and nanas, though i cant make out the plants on the right, look like saggitaris or e.tenullus. Excel should be fine, no need for pressurised co2 tanks. Save space on equipment too.

Spend some time in this hobby and if you like it very much then upgrade to a high tech.
