I have bunches of Java fern tied to wood in my tank. These plants do not have roots into the gravel. How do you fertilize them? I used liquid fertiliser but I realized that the algae on the wall absord faster than they do.

Any way to fertilise these plants without using liquid fertilizer? How about crushed fertilizer pellets scattered near the roots on the wood? Or does anyone know of a slow release pellet?

    Fertilizer paste? Any ideas?

Or maybe occasionally take them out and soak them in a smaller tank with liquid fertilizer?

    Thanks.

Good liquid fertilizers will do the trick. Plants can absorb their nutrients via their leaves too.
There's no such product available for precision fertilization like you described yet.

Do remove the algae in your tank first. They are not going to disappear by themselves!
