Ok, now 2 of the egg carrying females are no longer carrying their eggs this morning. I presume they were laid last night after lights out cos they were still carrying their eggs last night. I don't see any fries in the holdng tank either. Or are the eggs supposed to "hatch" later? If so, the eggs were probably laid in the riccia... darn!

Waiting to see what happens in 8 weeks. I've gotten a fan so thw water is consistently about 25 deg C.

The other 2 still carrying eggs.

I see the fries! About 20-30 of them... so hard to see... they are about 2mm little shrimps. yay! Thankfull I have them in a breeding net... cos when I tried to test water by transferring one of them into the main tank, it didn't last 2 seconds... was eaten by one of my cardinals.

the otos won't eat the baby shrimp. neither will the other shrimps with the exception of the wood shrimp cos they're filter feeders. i think u'll need alot of moss cover or thick vegetation to ensure that at least some will survive. i think the fry will settle down at some areas of the tank and will feed on the algae that's growing. try growing a patch of green algae and get loads of moss to provide hiding places. perhaps u guys should ask the resident hei-bee king MECH for tips.

u could try using just a pebble in a tank placed under sunlight. just to get that particular pebble coated with algae. though i read somewhere that shrimp fry actually feed on the algal coat.

no probs. that'll just make the algae grow on just that particular pebble. should work. though the container will be algae-fied. haha

gee, i don't know. with good sunlight, some water from the tank, and some fish food, i think algae will infest the container in no time. try using those clear plastic tanks.

    helllo ~

my cherry shrimps also bred in my tank with bee shrimps and around 10 exclamation mark rasboras.

in the beginning i also sort of worry that the rasboras will eat the babies. but now i see a few of the tiny baby cherry walk all over the tank and the fish dun bother them, i just let them be.

i didn't purposely add any algae for them to eat coz they eat the tetrabits i used to feed the fish, my tank has quite alot of moss too though...

i believe the cherries are quite productive so u dun worry lah[] i can see eggs filling up in the gut area of the females now already, even though they just released their fries 1-2 weeks ago....

my females are bigger and redder ie more beautiful than the males, which are lighter in colour.. are urs like that too ??

    good luck !!

Yes. Like that too. The egg carriers are the reddest. I got another 3 carrying eggs. Wah... they all so ! I've had bumble bees shrimps and tiger shrimps so much longer than the cherrys, but never seen them carrying eggs. []

My shrimplets are feeding on frozen blood worms and daphnia. Can see them walking around. So cute.

after the eggs have been laid.. do you need the males to fertilize them?
