Well, it seems that a number of forumers have started dosing potassium at levels of 20 to 35ppm per week. It'll be good to compile some results in here. I'll start.

Within the first week of dosing K, my plants slowed down growing upwards. The stem between leaf nodes are shorter and stemmed plants grew bushier. Lower branches of Hygrophilia polysperma under bright lights dipped downwards, towards the substrate. I used to have to trim my Rotala indica once every week as they'll cover the 6 inches of space above quite fast. After my last trimming 2 weeks ago, they still have 1 or 2 inches of space to grow.

Started dosing K2SO4 from Dr Mallick's about a month ago. Daily dosage about 6ml(stock solution) to achieve approx 20 to 25ppm per week, the results were positive, lusher plants and photosythesis of plants improve
    ...I love rubies too ...

Any difference in one big dose of potassium per week and one big dose divided into 7days?[]

cks, I'm dosing using K2SO4 from Dr Mallick. I dissolve it in water before dosing.

Do you dissolve your crystals (more like powder form, right?) in water before dosing or do you add direct? If you add direct, that might be why you're not seeing results. What other fertilisers do you use?

You can get it from Dr Mallick. Look up the contact info on the AQ LFS list.

cks..better to dissolve the powder in water and then distribute it evenly around the tank for best absorption

Just started dosing K2SO4 this week. About 25ppm. Other fert are E15 + S7

So far the results are a bit uneven. I definetly get more bubbling in general. H.polysperma (sunset) isn't shooting upwards as much as B4. Egeria Densa, still shooting up....

Perhaps it's still early for my tank, more updates later

Actually Takashi Amano's tanks are doing this K dosing with his brighty K stuff which is why all his tanks look fantastic. The other factor might contribute to his success could well be the low temperatures...almost all are at 25 degrees.

Actually I'm not surprised that the additional K is helping with the plants. My only concern when dosing K2SO4 is what happens to the SO4? Since the atomic weight of sulpher is about 82% of potassium, we can roughly estimate that for every 10 ppm of K dosed, you get 8 ppm of sulphur. and as the K gets consumed, the sulphur doesn't (at least not at the same levels as the K).

Does anyone have any insight on this? Also, why don't you guys try dosing with Potassium Chloride instead? KCl?

    Hi Vinz,

How's your planted aro tank doing? Mine is getting better eversince I managed to remove the 3 bloody grown up feeder goldfishes and started to use Geoliquid for plants.

However, from my observation, seems that NO3 and PO4 is on the high side, as there's still some new BBA and those velvety kind of algae growing on my plants, and with some of the unknown cheapo echis and mu nuphar japonica throwing out flower stalks . However, they're in less amount than before these days.

I'm also thinking along the same line of adding K to my tank, after reading through Sears-Collins paper. I'm quite convince that K could be limiting here. So I guess I'll be dropping by at Dr Mallick's to buy me some KCL, which look a safer bet.

I think a tank with high K would probably have a distinct glint from the water and also the surface of the water would look much more polished, something I don't see in my tank these days.

However, besides Geoliquid, I'm also supplementing it with V30 and S7 occasionally.

Ok, shall start dosing K as soon as I lay my hands on them, will post an update after 1mth.

    Cheers,

    Kenny

    guys,
since the aquarium is lacking in k, can't we add more fishes=more fish food=more k?

don't think fish food contains a lot of k. but it can contain a lot of n and p. that's why whenever there is an algae battle, one of the advices will be reduce feeding.

Sulphur is a essential plant macro nutrient.
    So is Chlorine (micro).

    No worries.
