I'm going on a trip soon and couldn't find anyone to feed my fries for the entire 9-day period. They are currently being fed exclusively on bbs and will be around 4 weeks old by that time.

I'm considering daphnia but am not sure if they can last more than 3-4 days. Any suggestions on how to prevent them from starving during that period?

Fries are very sensitive during the initial stages. My weeks old fries always die when i starved them. So be prepared for losses.

Some may recommend algae or green water. However i've no experience with either of those. If you are considering life daphnia, they will foul up your water. So i do not recommend that.

My fries take ADA AP1 readily. So maybe you could try out using the auto feeders. However, since ADA AP1 is a powdery food. You will have to modify the opening of your auto feeder so that the amount of food that it pours into the tank is of moderate amount, enough for your fries to eat and not too much till there are much uneaten food that can foul the water.

Decap BBS eggs need 3-5 mins to be soak in water before feeding so it will be difficult to prevent fries from eating it at this timing when drop in by auto feeder.
Best plan is to get someone to feed it with Decap BBS with simple instruction.

Yes, decap eggs can be a killer for some apisto fries if they are not soften enough.

Mmm ... Let me get an autofeeder first.

My only worry is that they are too pampered on bbs now and won't eat something that is not moving.

If there are helpers to feed them, you can drain off the water and freeze the bbs, more convenient. They will eat it if there is some circulation in the tank that make the death bbs move around.I usually put them in near to OHF or air stone outlets.

I've tried 'frozen' bbs last week but the fries just ignored them totally.

I am going to discontinue the usual feedings (2x bbs daily) for a day or two and replace with just Hikari Firstbites. If that works out, I should be able to use powdered food exclusively for my entire trip.

    *Fingers crossed*
