just want to ask a question. if i place my tank away from direct sunlight away from the window, and i didn't put in extra light or co2. will it be a very slim chance i'll get any algae problem? my plant are only jave ferns and nana, so i guess they don't need the light and co2. thanks

All plants need light and c02 to survive imo. it is just that some plants can survive without the supplement of co2 by taking in very little co2 that is available(through respiration?) and light. direct sunlight will cause algae, and too much light will also cause algae.

by not putting extra light or co2, you won't have algae problems, but your plants will most likely die.

I have a small tank hosting a betta. No CO2 injection, no air pump, no direct sunlight, but have enough lights as I place it near the window. Plants I have is MM, bacoba and hornwort.

Plants and fish grow healthy and not much algae issue.

You could give it a try, but put it some high grower such as hornwort. As with only slow grower such as nana and fern, they will not be able to compete with algae. Plant heavily at the beginning.
