    Hi guys,

Don't be alarmed by the question that I want to remove silicon....

I got a tank from Bybloz bro here.... Thanks Bybloz

Unfortunately, my wife doesn't like the fauz rock foam that was siliconed to the back wall so is there any way to remove the silicon that 'glued' the foam to the glass?

Its not fully siliconed just a bit here and there hence I thought might be possible.... Thanks for the help in advance....

Oh since it's not really glued from top to bottom ( actually dosen't matter it's all the same hehehe...) what you can do is get a sturdy penknife...carefully start cut out the foam not your fingers..then when you are done cutting off the big pieces then start 'scrapping 'the silicone from the glass....just apply enough pressure....For silicone residue still on the glass...hehehehe i have tried using thinner...but then you have to really remember to clean off any residue from using the thinner ( i washed my tank three times to just make sure )....But all in all it does take some time....

Hope this helps...but why dosen't your wifey like the foam?....heheheh as just curious....

Edited: I have removed everything already except the silicon residue / waterproof like stains on the glass. So i should use thinner to wipe those off before cleaning the tank throroughly again?

oK ....you see this is the tricky part....silicone dosen't just wipe off even after you use thinner....you still have to scrape off as you wipe off...you get what i mean......you can try wrapping a thin piece of cloth around the scrapper and then soak the scrapper in thinner and scrape away...

it is a bit labour intensive..i know....how big is your tank ?..mine is a 4 ft by 2...yeah so it was back breaking and was pretty 'high' by the time i was done... LOl.....

I don't think it is a good idea to use thinner to wipe off the silicon residue cos even after washing the smell will still be there. just use a scraper and slowing scrape it off would be better.

use a sharp razor blade, when you got it down to almost gone, u can use a pencil's eraser to rub off the the thin residue. finalize it with denatured alcohol to remove oil from your finger prints and other dirt, etc
