Hi,
hand carrying plants w/o water is fine on the return trip to Singapore. The LFS should be packing the plants in wet newpapers and then bagging it to retain moisture for the plants, so no major worries.
However if you are staying over for a couple of days in BKK after purchasing your plants, do remember to leave them submersed in water and repack again a couple of hours prior to your flight.
For hardscape, you may find some variety of nice looking driftwood and bogwood over there.. value for money. I'm not too sure about gravel and rocks though.
Plant variety wise, personally i don't think that they have more types than what we have here in Sg. However, they do have one or two interesting plants that we seldom/don't see here locally.
Have a great trip!
Cheers!

Heheh.. No problem... Anyway, the infomation i have shared earlier would be with regards to Chatuchak/ Jatujak market. Plenty to see and buy over at the weekend market as well.
Time flies, before you know it... you are in BKK already.
Cheers!
