    which one?

i only saw one fish that looks distinctly un-apisto so i just went to see closer.

the rest are clearly not what vican had described.

Went to H20 today, didn't see anything resembling a golden dwarf cichlid.
    Any other leads?

  8. #48
vican: sorry to steal your thread, but wondering if anyone can help me identify a cichlid too? it's dwarf sized, is light orange with fins that are translucent but dark orange tipped. thanx!

Just had a close look at the golden dwarf in the 12' planted tank at Pet Safari.

Sad to say, it's in deplorable condition. I noticed fungus growing on its tail and head. Looks like it's gonna go soon.

    Poor fish!

    really?

the time i went there to see he was doing great

i even took some nice pics of him..

  12. #52
Hey, share the pics! Unless the Pet safari guys take him out to treat, I don't think he's gonna make it. He still swims healthily though.

I've also spotted a female at the other corner of the tank.

    Hi guys
I had a chat wif the apisto expert there (Sam Yick), & the cichlid in question is the anomala. It's reaching the end of its lifespan (i mentioned this in another thread elsewhere too), so the white patch that vican mentioned is apparently a disfunction in the body's mucus producing system (?!?!). Anyway, i had an interesting chat wif the apisto expert, & he was able to 'command' the other apistos in the 12ft to come out & he gave me a run-down on them...will talk more when we meet next time...

Dat was one of the issues we chat abt...the lifespan. Apistos r supposed to have a lifespan of 4 yrs (if u r lucky)...3 yrs if u r not. But because of improper breeding (wifout proper consideration of the ideal parameters for the fish & fries) & so on, factors such as appearance and lifespan has deteriorated in subsequent generations (mutation), esp those which u can find in SGP's lfs. As such, he selectively purchases his apistos only fr Jpn, Belgium, etc at prices we only consider paying for a chiller.

Don flame me hor....just something i gathered fr him.
