Congratulations! They are so cute! Good that you managed to remove the male. Now you had better start feeding them bbs.
hi guys,
remember a week ago i was asking around for verification on whether my apisto viejita has spawned? well well.. what a surprise for me. i came back back from work as usual and began feeding my viejita. anyway that's my usual routine. even my housemates was commenting that my fishes are more important than anything else.. lol!
anyway during feeding, the female as usual came out and made a quick round and went back to her usual spot. i didn't really pay attention to it as she's been doing it for a week and i don't really see anything unusual. suddenly i saw something small moving at the back of my tank. as i can't really see, i went and grab my camera and snap some pictures of the back of my tank.
to my surprise, i saw this
and immediately i removed the male viejita into a breeder box. now i'm hoping these fires will survive.

Congratulations! They are so cute! Good that you managed to remove the male. Now you had better start feeding them bbs.

guys,
i was reading and saw that feeding decapsulated bbs is easy and hassle free. anyone knows where to get this? anyone or any LFS?
thanks zen!
think it was pure luck. the new female i bought to replace the one i got from you didn't seem to pair up with the male but it turned out otherwise![]()

congrats on your spawndecap bs eggs are my fry food of choice (for the first few days anyway, after that i've started on NLS grow formula). there's a merchant on this forum called aquanova i believe who sells them

congrats in your new spawn!! :>
think, can get bbs from petmart or C328..
alternatively you can buy the eggs and hatch them..
maybe meanwhile can throw in some tubifex worms just incase the babies are hungry

Food for fries
- baby brine shrimp, best but not all LFS sell this, or have to hatch yourself
- decap bbs eggs
- microworms
- daphnia
think the fries are still too small to eat tubifex.![]()

oh, didn't know that they are deadly, sorry for that...
but what is the reason behind it?
I've used tubifex for guppies and bettas fries before and they works wonder :P
but nowadays the lfs that I bought clean tubifex no more selling liao so I never buy tubifex anymore

can feed decap bs eggs.. just remember to soak them in water for 10 mins before feeding.. congrats =)
ah no choice,
went to yishun and then bought this liquidfry for egg laying fishes... lets hope these guys will get to eat something.

congrats bro, cute looking fries.
do keep us updated![]()

I have created an urgent thread in Aquatalk for you asking for information on live BBS/daphnia and decapsulated BS eggs.
A dedicated thread on this would help you obtain information faster instead.

hi quixotic,
thanks a million! now my fries won't starve to death. luckily for me i have got a few thick bushes of spiky moss. probably that will sustain them for a while.

bro, hope your fries like the decap bbs eggs.feed them slowly initally. See if there are too many leftover, make sure u do some water change.
guys,
i'm leaving them in my planted tank. should i be removing them and the female into another seperate tank or just let them be there?
dang, lost quite a few fry to my filter. saw some of them got sucked in so quickly stopped the filter and started my rescue mission. unfortunately managed to recover only one.
hi guys,
i read from a site which says the following about viejita fry.
"The fry grow very slow, and mature after a year. The male / female ratio can be as bad as 1:10/20"
does it mean i have to leave them with the female for as long as they grow? that is so long! in the mean time, what happen to the male? or can i just try to siphon out the kids (that is i'm able to locate them in my heavily planted tank) and house them in a seperate fry tank and then let the male go back inside? the male look "stoned" in the breeding box now.
please advice.
