vinegar, it does work but you need to soak it. For big tank I ussualy using paper towel, soak in in vinegar, stick it on the glass surface and wrap it with cling wrap. All clean the next day.

I noticed that my tangan tank which i use alot of sodium bicarbonate which i bought from NA causes very serious mineral stains. I've used AquaMedic brand of KH-up before and they don't cause such bad staining. Maybe it's due to the impurities.

Its basically acid, but safe as it'll breaks down into H2O+O2. So, no worries if it gets into the water. For a 100l tank I used up to 30ml at 1 application. Well, they will for sure get into the water unless you are using on an empty tank.

Did some searching on the web, H2O2 is weak acid, 3% H2O2 pH probably around 6.5 on the other hand white vinegar contain 5% acetic acid and have pH of about 2.4.

Never measure it, so I might be wrong

Maybe you can try the melamine sponges from Daiso. Works well for me.
