How long has it been in your tank? It may just be adapting, although it certainly doesnt look to healthy.

In your pictures you jsut posted whats that bright green one called, you can't miss it. I've jsut bought some, atleast it looks exactly the same as mine, wouldnt mind knowing the name of it if you do.

From what i found out it seems to be called Lagarosiphon madagascariensis
    Not sure though...

Went to a LFS today ans saw the same plant and it seems to be from australia instead... still unsure of the actual name too.

It has been planted for about a week now and maybe you are right, it might be adapting to my tank. Hope it does not die on me cause when i got it from the plant farm the guy there did tell me this is kinda hard to grow and is very senstive as he too has problems planting it.

Have you got them from polyart? Don't think that's the actual name. Have goggled for the pics on the web, & they don't look anything like it. I've got mine there & it is growing pretty well. It actually split into 2, except that the leave got shorter.

Anyways, what's your water parameters? Did you dose any fertilizers? I see that you are using ADA/GEX as your base, which is similiar to mine. So I would suspect that the temperature could be the cause of it.

nope mine is from a plant farm in LCK.

    Tank specs--->
    4x1.5x1.5
seachem NPK dose 1-2 per week
    JBL Ferropol weekly
    water temp 25-26
    2x150w
    base ADA Amazonia II

pretty standard stuff... other plants doing well....

Your setup is very similar to mine, except the fertilizers used & the lights (which you had 2 x 150)

    My setup

    4 x 1.5 x 2
    temp : 25~26
    6 x 36w T5 HO
Base : ADA Amazonia II & ADA powersand special

    Weekly 30% water change
Ferka aquatilizer 2 X large caps weekly
    ADA Brighty K 2 x caps weekly
Seachem Flourish phosphorus 1 x caps weekly

Is your plant growing new leaves? It seems more like the algaes covering and suffocating the old leaves.

yeah we have same para except the lights... extra 76w should not make much of a diff... oh yah mine is 10k... should not make much diff yah..

yes you are right albout suffocation but it seems to only affect this plant while my mini nanas are not affected at all as part of the leaves are exposed to light only half is under my DW. Some of my cherries swam over to clear the leaves but dont help much cause i think too much algea growth... will try to clean them manually tomorrow see if it helps.

also tried increasing K dose to increase growth rate.... what am i doing wrong!!!!

10K lights is ok, but recommended is 6.5K~8K for planted tanks.

so what does higher kelvins do to a planted tank? will it melt plants? been using 10k for the longest time and never experienced problems except with this plant.

Not that 10K lights are bad for your plants. It's just that plants will respond & grow better in the 6.5K ~ 8K light spectrum.

This plant is NOT Lagarosiphon madagascariensis...

This plant is, if i'm not wrong a Tonina sp... pretty hard to grow plants with high requirements.

As for that bright green plant you're refering to verminator..i take it that it is the one that looks like a underwater lily? thats a Nuphar japonica. Mad growth on this one too..

Thanks ranmasatome, if you are correct on that underwater lily look-a-like then it means the plant i have is not that. Nuphar Japonica grows new leaves from its base, does it not? Atleast google images show this, and they show it consistently. The plant i have grows a leaf, then the stem continues up and a new leaf forms, then again from that another begins, similar to that of a species of hydrocotyle except with the water lily appearance. The quest for my plant I.D continues xD

Tonina sp looks very much like it. This being a variant of it you reckon? The leaves of this one are far thinner to that of a common Tonina...

Looks more likely to be Eriocaulon setaceum.

Found this info, hope this helps those who have this plant too.

Eriocaulon setaceum is a very difficult plant to grow for the beginner or even an intermediate grower. it prefers an acidic substrate such as Flora Base, Aqua soil, it will also do well in Eco Complete as long as the addition of peat is introduced underneath the main substrate, and a deep substrate of at least 3" recommended and soft water is a must, (Low KH/4 or less & GH/5 or less)

Lighting needs to be within the 3wpg range.
CO2 injection is a necessity, 24/7 managed and regulated for best results, a mist of C02 is recommended.
Fertilization should be diligent, NPK, TE and Fe.

The bio-filtration also plays an important role in the overall success of growing this plant and plants of this specie. filter needs to be large enough to produce good flow and house adequate media.

A very stunning plant when grown to its glory in the aquarium.

Propagation is easy for a healthy plant, it will produced new plants around the crown, pruning should only be done when needed, as this plant does not like to be trimmed prematurely.
