The Hailea tank comes with a waterproof PL fixture (which can get pretty warm after 2 hours of running). I will remove the entire fixture for this project.
Will have to cut some wires.

Hi guys
A new project to share.
Basically revamping an old tank with new ideas (we love doing that all the time)...
Tank: Hailea 20L all-in-one
Lighting: LEDs (experimenting)
Filter: Eheim Liberty 200
Substrate: ADA Power Sand Special & Europet White Sand
Hardscape: Wood and black stone (rough and polished)
Here's an overview shot... will feature a step-by-step shortly.

another great tank by jervis..
so its gonna be a low tech non- co2 tank? waiting for a full tank shot![]()
I mounted 6 waterproof (IP64) 0.55W module onto the hood (3 in a row, in 2 rows) using industrial 3M double-sided tape.
My power consumption for lighting:
0.55W x 6 modules = 3.3W![]()
Once done with the lighting mod... I quickly prepared the substrate to get the tank running.
Actually I was faced with a little challenge... the Europet White Sand is nice but not suitable for planting. I can easily add ADA Power Sand to improve the situation but if any of the ADA Power Sand is to get to the surface (due to various reasons)... it will be disastrously ugly

So I came up with this idea of dividing the 2 layers using a white plastic netting (hard type). The net is large enough to allow roots to reach the bottom but not large enough to allow the Power Sand to surface.
I didn't cut the net into small pieces on purpose... just reuse some leftovers.
congratulations jervis for more this assembly. One question... what camera you use? the pictures is great!
All is well in the end... Here's a closer look at the beautiful Europet White Sand... and my ADA Sand Flattener of courseAll these ADA tools always remind me of the quality and satisfaction of handling WMF kitchen utensils (the gourmet range)
Gathered some existing wood and stones for the hardscape. Didn't really have the chance to shop specifically for this tank.

Didn't take long to arrange those few pieces of wood and stone... or maybe I am not really fussy
My standard way of filling up the tank with DI water 80% then add 20% of water from existing tank to help cycle the tank.

Now let's look at the filtration.
My trusted Eheim Liberty 200 4W power consumption.
With 2 compartments, I fill up one of the partition (the bottom part) with a stocking back filled with Eheim Substrate Pro and ADA Bio Rio. Again these are left overs. I cover the top with white sponge.
Basically I have not spent a single cent on this tank![]()
Jervis, you're going into more Hi-tech, with energy saving lightings. Hope you can succeed in low power consumption with this lights. May you provide more information for this type of lights and where you bought it from. Thanks
Actually I have tested these LEDs in a previous tank with plants in there for 2 weeks... looking totally promisingI didn't buy the LEDs but was given by the manufacturer as product samples for other industrial applications. So, instead of testing the LEDs on the wall, I decided to test them inside my fish tank
No, they don't wish to be identified at this point of time as they are not ready to market through retail. But you can easily find similar products in Sim Lim Tower.

I believe they use finer net?
Sony Alpha 100... been discontinued

Bro,you have the full proper tank shot?

led are the newer low energy lights. However, at aro, someone did abit of calculations on PL vs led. It came up to around 4 years before we could actually start capitalising on the real wattage benefits in terms of dollars. Unless of course the cost of these lights are priced competitively, then yes, would be worth having them.
