    Hi anyone,
I am in the midst of deciding which type of tank to get. One IOS tank and the other normal tank (no IOS).

My intention is to use the tank for plant tank but later might use the tank to marine tank. My question is that
    1. Can the normal tank be used for marine tank?
    2. Can the IOS tank use for Marine tank or plant tank?

    Need your advise. Thanks inadvance.

IOS tanks are not advisable for planted tanks. They IOS can cause a higher rate of CO2 loss.

Other reasons IOS are not so good are that they take up space inside the tank and are often quite unsightly.

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

    IOS= Internal Overflow System

I'm using an IOS system for my aro planted tank. I have a permanent CO2 indicator in the tank to monitor CO2 levels. Currently, for the 5', I'm using the longest 3 section Taiwan CO2 reactor (with bioballs inside) and only 3 bubbles per second. Any higher and the CO2 level is too high.

There is already bubbling by the plants in the tank. But currently, I'm using the Eheim 1060. With the high water movement, only can see a little bubbling. But if I switch to a smaller powerhead, can see more bubbling...

So, for my system,CO2 loss is still minimal. But I don't know how it will affect the tank should it be a real overflow system with an external sump

IMO, if u have a big bioload, IOS is not that efficient

maybe you can try to stop the ios for 1/2 hour to see what is the effect of ios. who knows, maybe you can see a lot more bubbling.

On and off still can see bubbling, but the higher movement of water means that more O2 is dissolved the minute it comes out of the leaves. The photosynthesis must be the same rate as when I had used the less powerful powerhead.

Also thinking of dosing K2SO4 to see if it helps

you mean whether ios is on or off, you get the same amount of o2 bubbling? o2 bubbling occurs only when the wayer is saturated with o2 so why does higher water movement results in more o2 being dissolved?

Well, it's just like if you make Kopi. You stir and the 3-in-1 dissolves faster and you don't see the powder anymore.

Same with IOS tank. When Water movement is high, each O2 molecule that is produced will be quickly dissolved or removed as tiny bubbles, so there is no chance for it to accumulate to a bigger bubble for you to see.
