    Hello forum members,

I am starting my first planted 3ft tank with iron stand.

I would like to know whats the best suitable spacing requirement inbetween a tank that size and the wall, or what is your spacing? Any problems encountered in the future if too narrow? or just enough for your hand to reach in for the filter hose, pipes?

I have a power outlet next to the tank. Theres empty space next to the tank, good enough for me to stand beside the tank and reach my hand behind the tank.

I will be using an external filter.

    Thanks!!

You should leave ample space for your tubing, if its going from back up to top side. of course leaving damp stuff next to wall usually discolors the wall to some degree.

    Thanks for your advice torque6,

Maybe i should stick a plastic sheet on my wall to avoid the discoloration. =D

Any more problems that i would face in future? also i am thinking 3-4inches of space for my hand to reach in. Comments anyone?

    Thanks!!

I've ample space for me to vacuum & mop the floor in between. Think about 7 to 8 inches.

my tank is 4" away from the power socket and now i have problem putting my fan adapter, got to use an extension now
8" is ideal, to be on the safe side

If you planning to take photo of your tank with different background and backlight then you need lots of space at the back but if you are happy with Oyama paper then couple of inch should be good enough.

Hook up all piping then move the empty tank. As long as your hand able to move the piping, the space is good enough.

Better to leave a gap in case anything less than a pencil size dropped behind.
