    Hi,

My platies just given birth and now got 8 frys. How do I breed them?
I kept them in another small tank. What food should I feed them with?
How long will they take to grow into adult to be introduce back into the main tank?

    Thanks.

Feeding them crushed flake food works. Also daphnia bloodworm has always worked for me.

As for growing, couple of days they should get colour, then its just a case of patience and small feeding 3-4 times a day, make sure you remove any excess food after 3-4 minutes of feeding.

As for introducing them back to the main tank, i'd be carefull. Once they've matured they may start breeding with their parents basically. Obviously inbreeding in any shape or form is bad, and i wouldnt recommend it. Perhaps keep one or two maybe but i'd find them a new home, they breed often for me and so you'll soon have another batch of fry to raise if your conditions are still right. I often had one brood half grown when i had to add more fresh fry into my breeding/hospital tank.

    Good luck

    Hi,

Thanks for your advice. I fed the babies with crushed flake food, they ate it. They are doing fine.
Just to check, do they need airpump? I had an airpump for them but just wondering.

    Thanks.

When i had fry in a quarantine tank i did have an airstone in there, if thats what you mean. Keeping the water oxygenated can only benefit them, certainly can't do any harm, lack of oxygen will kill them so in a way its better safe than sorry i guess.

if is in a feet tank, just change water regularly, no pump needed.
