How to fill an eheim 2028/2026 with media

Its not a case of open filter cover, pour in media and close filter cover...

I'm talking about layering media.... I always put the bio filter material at the bottom, and foam/mesh/sponge only on the topmost layer as this was the way it was configured when I bought my first... thinking back, I have encountered new sets with the media packed in a different way in my other sets... Thus this question...

my 2028 instructions were as such:

Bottom tray = Ehfimech at the bottom, coarse blue sponge at the top
Middle tray = Substratpro only
Top tray = Substratpro at the bottom, fine white sponge at the top

I believe the logic is as follows: water is pushed to the bottom of the filter via the hole in the middle and it moves upwards towards the outlet. The largest particles are first trapped by the ehfimech then the medium particles that didn't get trapped are caught by the coarse sponge. Thereafter, the water goes through the biomedia where the beneficial bacteria gets to work then the fine sponge polishes away small particles before the water is pumped back into the tank.

bottom to top:
1. ceramic ring
2. eheim sponge
3. biohome
4. filter wool

u can add carbon (adsorptive media) as the most top media... clears water... and when time to change(1-2months) is the easiest to reach...
