Hey, I have a snail problem too, and it turns out my clown loach just isn't interested in escargo. It prefers hiding to eating snails (I named it Ninja).

    HOWEVER!!

At Hong Yang in CCK, I managed to get a snail trap by Sera! It comes with bait and everything. It kind of lures them in and keeps them there. Wonder if it works, will try it out tonight and let you know. BTW it costs $19. >_< There are times when I'm so inclined to animal cruelty - d*mn snails.

My clown loach simply love snails, they have an aquired taste for them definately.

Mine didnt like them to start with. Being young clown loach when i got them i had to make them aware of snails. I did this by catching them myself and squishing them in the tips of my fingers. Sick and certainly wasnt a nice feeling to the touch. But it crushed the shell and my snails started to eat the mushed up snail. From then on i just drop them in my tank and they now know what to do. Clever and inquisitive little fella's to say the least.

As for snail traps. I find them a waste of money, theres far easier and more efficient methods out there.

That's an interesting way to teach your loaches. Today, manage to get 10 snails from the cucumber method.

I used the cucumber trap method before and caught only 10s of snail, till one night, I woke up at 4am to get a drink and just happened to see my tank, holy, the glass is all covered by snails. They only start coming out of the sand a couple of hours after lights off. So for the next 3 days, I purposely wake up at 4am to catch snails and that tally to over 300 snails. It was quite a shocker. Yea, I think young crown loaches does not know how to appreciate snails until a certain age, then suddenly they just love snails, or by chance they tasted a crush snail. Then they will actively dig them out of the sand.

Indeed. They are proving to be quite a nuisance currently with their digging. I've just recently rescaped my tank, and well lets just say the plants dont remain in the substrate long enough to actually root in properly
