dc fans can be noisy too if the fan speed is high.
dc fans with > 250ma current consumption are noisy.

You are right, higher rpm will generate more noise.

Normally, dc fan is relatively quiet & safer to use. I have both ac & dc fans. I operate dc 24/7. Only on ac during hot days for fast cooling. In a way saving energy and keep room noise level low.

To control the speed of the AC fan. A light dimmer maybe use. I am not too sure, my friend had tried and he was using it without problem. I may want to try it out in future.

a light dimmer should work. ensure the fan power consumption is lower than the dimmer power rating.

So if I have a fan running on 240v and 0.13a,it means I need a light dimmer of more than 31.2W to control my fan speed?
