Need a snail to help out with GSA. Previous attempts at using snails resulted in them crawling out of the tank, dry up and eaten by ants in some corner...

Willing to try again... any suggestions?

Wah your snails so smart knows how to climb out of the tank? How come mine so stupid ones? Keep growing out of control... But can really compare a tank with snails or not... Really big big different.. Got snails really helps you clears your algae in the tank but the growing control thing a bit hard for me.?
Read a bit can easily pick them out of the tanks but pick till morning i guess.. So many.. They still very clever knows how to hide inside soil.

Bro.. I think Savant is referring to snails like horns, Zebra etc.. But not those small snails which people viewed as pests which were found mostly in the soil which we purchased.. I do experienced snail crawling out of my tank too.. Think it is because they do not like the water parameters you housed them..

    Hi,
I believe if the conditions are right, those snails won't escape.
How about you tell us more on your tank water parameters? E.g. temperature, pH..etc.
Btw, what snails are you keeping previously?

I have two horned nerite snails that are with me for almost two years.
    Very hardworking guys.
Help me keep my tank wall clean.

To deal with algae, you also have to take note of lighting, CO2 and nutrient. Perhaps you might want to read up more before getting snails.

    Cheers

I am out of test kits. This was a CRS setup. 1 ft nano. The horned snails would crawl up and out once every other week which is quite worrying since they will get attacked by ants and dirty the place. I remembered the PH being really low, a result of the use of ADA africana soil.

The snails I am looking to get is for my 3ft Hypancistrus Zebra setup. No Co2, minimal feeding, low plants (annubias and bolbitis), not too much lighting, ambient + 3-4 hours...

low pH isn't good for snail growth.
my ex apple snails and ramshorn snails breed in pH 7 - 7.4 water.

Anyway, for your 3ft L46 setup.. just get some nerite and they will do all the necessary (normal brown) algae cleaning for you.
