Need some advise. Is the smaller apisto (on the left side) a female or sneaker male?
I bought them about 3 weeks ago. At first, the 2 apisto very friendly, go everywhere also swim together. However, today suddenly found the one on the right side chasing after the smaller one and like attack the body of the smaller one. What happened? Please advise.
The male is showing courtship to the female. Do not worry if the tank is big shouldn't be a problem. Now the most important thing to do is to condition the female just in case the male want to spawn badly. Try to provide some caves for the female to hide. From the blur pic, can still tell the female is ready.if possible give them a tank of their own to spawn. Apistogramma, once they spawn they cannot stopped. especially if they are a bonded pair.

Current tank: 1 4 tier 3ft fish rack
Livestock: WC Ivanacara Adoketa, WC Apistogramma Kelleri 'Red Cheeks', A , WC Apistogramma Mendezi, WC Apistogramma Cruziero, WC Apistogramma Elizabethae and WC Biotoecus Operularis.
The tank is 2 ft tank, with 7 tetras and 2 swordtail. I was thinking of removing the other fish after I see apisto fries. Is it okay or is it better to move the other fish now?
How do I condition the female?
I have 1 cave bought off the shelf, 1 lava rock and 1 pile of wood (stack like a cave) for them. Is it enough? I am worried that the female will die from the attack like my other pair of apisto. Originally I bought 2 pairs of different kind of apisto at the advise of the LFS and put into the same tank. However the female from other pair died from the constant attack. What should I do? Sorry got so many questions. Blur like sotong here.
2 pairs in a 2ft tank is not advisable. Males and females will fight for their territory and hence the death you encountered. I tried 2 pairs in a densely planted 3ft tank before and it didn't work out as well.
Now that you have just a pair in the 2ft, things should work out fine. Its common for the male to chase the female around. Sometimes, the female would get slightly torn fins as a result. But from what you described, your setup should be fine with the hiding spaces you created.

It should be good enough during peace time but if any pair spawn,the other pair will suffer.I had put in 3 pairs of juvenile in a 2ft tank before with 4 caves and plenty of plants,no problem till one of the pair matured and spawn,the rest suffer like hell.
