i was at the lfs asking for 1 pack of bloodworms
and i didn't check to see if they gave me hikari
it ended up to be golden dragon (jin long) brand, imported by qian hu
so, what the heck, i fed 3 cubes to my discus
wow
the worms were much bigger and firmer than the hikari ones
once they started getting into the worms, they sucked it right up
you guys might want to try it

more 'Q'?[]
DEA,
Where is Happy Aquarium? Or you talking about Cheerful Aquarium?
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

This new bw comes in a bigger cube right? I've seen it before. But am hesitating to use it as I'm a unsure if the UV sterilization is better than hikari's 3-step sterilization.
Any comments?
hi vican
you maybe suprise that they may come from the same factory in China...just different brand name.

The title below my name does not make me a guru...listen at your own risk!...
Not sure if any of you have notice, the new Hakari frozen bloodworms are much bigger/firmer than the past. DEA, maybe you wanna compare with my hikari and see if there is any difference.----------------

Recently, damn scared my apisto choked on them, see my little apisto taking 10-15 mins to finish 1 bloodworm (big and fat one).
My Apisto Keeping Diary
Apistogramma agassizii, Apistogramma bitaeniata "Careiro", Apistogramma brevis, Apistogramma elizabethae, Apistogramma eremnopyge, Apistogramma sp. "Miua", Dicrossus filamentosus
new hikari stock came in?
mine are the old ones
hmm, jason, gotta show me
Yes!!
they are much bigger and fuller and redder
and they sink really fast and wont get blown abt by current in the water or get sucked up easily by filter tubes.
and the worms..each worm so nice and complete can count.
and all my fish grab them like crazy.
Jing Long Pai bloodworms,
just like
Jing Long Pai Taiwan Sausage.
so sedap
The Hikari bw seems to be getting out of stock.
So far, how safe is this china brand bw?
I'm running out of hikari bw, so I might need to switch.
So far, anyone's fish got sick after taking this jin long bw?
Also, those who have fish frys better stock up on frozen daphnia or frozen brine shrimp. The Chinese New Year is coming and there'll be no live food for at least a week!
victor, yr fry eats frozen bbs & daphnia?
Sure, but not couple day old frys.
2 week old betta frys should eat the frozen daphnia.
But you have to train them 1st.
Thaw the cube in a brineshrimp net, then dip it in the tank and make it swirl, so it sort of looks like it's moving.
Then the frys will learn that it's food.
A couple of days later, they'll eat the daphnia even if you don't swirl it around.
But 1 warning is that frozen daphnia and brineshrimp really clouds the water. But if you thaw it under running water, then it's OK. The water that comes from the thawing is quite cloudy.
Warning 2 is that growth rate is not as fast as live daphnia. Dunno why, so far, comparing live daphnia, frozen daphnia, bbs and frozen brineshrimp, live daphnia gives the fastest growth rate
what makes you think it is unsafe and what makes a "respected" brand like Hikari safe?
i've read something abt true nuitritional compositions about some well known brands in the market..and things are not always we think they are....?
at the end of the day, try to know.
I will say the dragon brand so far is ok.
my fish like it and are growing fast on it.
poo normal too.

Well, I've been feeding hikari stuff so far and they're pretty safe, but I've never tested the china brand, so I'm not sure if it's safe.
Hikari mentions 3-step sterilisation, China brand only UV. Thus the question.
But since no one has bad experiences with the china brand, I guess I'll just go buy some to feed my fish also
haha
actually i heard hikari had sub-ed to this china brand to manufacture the frozen bloodworms...anyone knows if it is true?
the best thing is to test it out ourselves. i only really trust a few brands nowadays when it comes to prepared food like pellets.
