I've just finished my vivarium in 2 days of hard work.
I'm still thinking of adding more plants but in the process of choosing.

    Setup:
    Tank (L45cm x B20cm x H25cm)
Boyu Canister filter EFU-05 (with UV light)
    Gex subtrate (approx 3.2 litre)
Cork Bark background sealed with silicon
    Wood & stone slabs

    What's inhabiting:
1x FB newt (the other disappeared while transferring, should be dead by now)
2x cheap shrimps (to test water condition before transferring in cherry shrimps)
1x large pile of moss which I gathered from my house downstairs
    1x venus flytrap
xx assorted plants which I gathered from my house downstairs as well

    C & C welcome.

    Nice work bro!

But you will need a cover to prevent the newts from climbing out of the tank. They are very good in escaping..

Ecoculture was selling them. But they have close down.
Noted that your tank is not covered. Frogs are good escape artiste aren't they?

I doubt, cause the rainbar is flowing directly onto the land and the light is switched on only in the evening.
Bought some plants, will post some updated photos soon.

Temperature is typical Singapore HDB temperature.

    Hyla Arborea, Green Tree Frog.
It's not touching water, therefore, they probably don't even know that the cherry shrimps & newt exist.

Just took me 2 days to find materials & 2 days to set up the tank.
Gex subtrate cycled the tank in just 1 day typically, and it was ready for them.
The moss from my house downstairs did the finishing touch of covering the subtrate to make it look more seasoned.

The PROBLEM now is that I'm having trouble looking for smaller crickets to feed the frogs.
They despise mealworms plus they always drown themselves.
None of the LFS is selling pinhead crickets.

And I need to get another newt, but can't find in LFS.

    Help anyone?

    East Side, Tampines.

What I found in LFS are American Crickets.

Hey Bro. Just curious about the flytraps. Are they doing well in the vivarium?

I've had many experiences of flytraps dying on me.

Flytrap's doing great, it's about 1+ week old in the vivarium
I fed it with small insects twice already and the plant is definitely growing.
Requires moist condition as I read, survive well with moss & require manual feeding of insects regularly.

Thanks for the info, tried to order from Superstar Tampines but to no avail.
If I can get them, I don't have to worry anymore.

"The Active Season for any Venus Fly Trap Cultivar is between May to October (Although there is often some growth several weeks outside of this bracket). During this period they will grow and should be kept constantly damp.
During the winter Venus Fly Traps enter a period of dormancy for roughly three months. In this period most of the plants leaves will blacken and die, this is normal. These dead leaves should really be removed to stop mould and disease from attacking the plant.
The entire plant should be kept in a cold environment with a temperature range of 8 - 10 ° C (45 - 50 F). This period of dormancy is necessary for it's growth, and although the plant may look like it could feed, do not allow it to. It is the temperature drop which is the most important factor in doramncy, so ensure that the new storage environment is sufficiently cold enough. The soil should be kept slightly damp, however the pot should not be left to stand in excess water."

Hi, if you're looking for whites tree frogs, tiong bahru wuhu carries them last time I checked on sunday. I think they're whites tree frogs.

As for dormancy, there is no fixed period for it to go into dormancy. It will go into dormancy as and when it wants to.

No idea... I'll try leaving it at the site during dormancy & trim the black/dead leaves as often as possible.

Anyway, this vivarium is hardwork maintenance so far.
    Testing out a few plants.
Having problem with the cover when opening and closing as the tube/pipe from the external canister moves.

    Any recommendations for custom cover?
    Need your experience.

Mainland Tropical in Pasir Ris Farmway has very large cork bark.
Boyu mini external canister filter available at OTF in Pasir Ris Farmway.
Very good filter I say, as water level can be as low as 4cm.
