oyama paper?![]()
add some substrate like Lapis sand or best, get some GeXsoil..
change your lighting to white tube... remove the white silverrish thing there.. and tie your wood with some moss(perhaps spikymoss or us fissiden?) add some stem plants here and there..and there you got a planted tank.
my 2 cents though, im sure it will look much nicer with a white tube and some substrate.
Yelomaybe you can add some dark coloured gravel to spice things up. The stone looks massive thouugh in that small tank; maybe add in some smaller rocks. Just a suggestion

It looks simple enough... maybe change the pinkish light bulb to whitish?![]()
If its meant for a little kid, probably best to keep it simple like you mention.
1. Stick a piece of oyama paper to hide the filter.
2. Remove that big rock to free up some space.
3. Get some small pebbles or granite if you can find (20 cents coin size) to fill the base.
4. Purchase some common Java ferns or Nanas and place them around the back, or attached them to the wood that is already there. Ferns are hardy and require little care and can survive long enough on low light conditions without co2.
5. If you have plants might be good to change the light build to white light
cheers
Bern still suck at Water Chemistry + Plant Names
the reason why i did not use any substrate is because i want to keep it simple, easy to manage.
will tie some moss to the driftwood.
btw thats not a rock, its a "trunk" ornament.
thanks all
Then the "trunk" ornament is hideous![]()
I'd say thin layer of substrate (any)
Perhaps an Anubias nana attatched to the rock (simple, very easy care)
Small rocks/pebbles (easily done)
Simple set-up. Even with a thin layer of substrate it doesnt make it any harder to maintain, adds depth and actually provides a visual, instead of just seeing the bottom of the tank which looks tacky.
