I have been thinking and planning on getting a 6ft planted tank.

I am considering using 2250 or 2260 in this future setup but have some questions that I need help with..

    - How is the filter media arranged in 2250 / 2260. Do these filter have 'cages' or 'trays' setup similar to 2026 / 2028? Reason why I ask is I like to know how to clean it when the time comes.

    - 2250 and 60 seems like filter of the old generation. How is the priming like? Is it the 'sucking' method?

    - How is the motor performing? Is it a reasonably trouble-free one?

    - Is there anything about this filter that I need to know of because it is a 'pain-in-the-arse' feature?

    Thanks.

    I'm using a 2250.

It's just a sealed pail with a pump on top. No baskets of any kind inside. There are 2 grills. The bottom one to maintain some space below the media and the top one to prevent the fine filter pad from choking the filter outlet. Loose media must be contained in filter bags. I cut-to-fit filter pads from large filter pad sheets.

    Traditional priming method.

The motor is one of the Eheim pumps. Reliablility? Well, it IS an Eheim.

isn't the 2250 like a pond filter or something?
i recall seeing one giant filter that came up to my waist
my friend apparently liberated it from some pond
    it was an eheim too

I think Eheim does not indicate that 2250 and 2260 are ponds filters. The 2250 is about knee high and the 2260 slightly taller.

If this filter is merely a 'big pail' with no basket, how then do you wash the filter? Or is the thing so big that non of you have yet to wash them (like nobody knows what the govt will do after 99 years lease for HDB)

Instead of baskets, put the media into filter bags. To wash, you lift out the bags and rinse the whole package with water. I suggest getting smaller bags and do not fill each more then 3/4 full. Smaller bags are easier to handle for washing and easier to shape to fill the chamber.

I got mine 2nd hand, so I don't know if they come with filter bags. You can buy them cheaply at most LFS. I use laundry net bags found at the supermarket as the zips make it easy to add and remove media.

The standard arrangement ( according to the diagram ) is ( starting from the bottom ) :
    - Bottom grill
    - Ceramic rings
    - Sponges
    - substrate ( placed in a standard netted bags )
    - JBL filtering wool
    - Top grill
    - Top cover
Washing the " stuffs " is no hassle lah ! coz the darn thing can last or run for at least 6 months !.
All the stuffs are easily available ! check out Petmart ! Cheers ! []
