aqua, maybe you can try up rooting every thing, and trim from the bottom?
thats what i do to my Tonina sp.
Dear all,
I've read that once we cut off the top of Ludwigia inclinata var. verticillata "Cuba", the trimmed portion may wither and die. I have some of this plant in my tank so I'm seeking advices from you people in here.![]()

snipping the tops off should produce more shoots lower and make the plant mroe dense. i have no idea why yours are falling over and dying. Perhaps if you dont want to uproot...you can trim realllly low and then just re-plant the realllly long tops.. this should save you from uprooting..
Adding what ranmasatome has said, theoretically the "tiny stump" you leave in the substrate from this method should produce a new stem. And the existing stem cut down to size can be replanted to grow up again.
