Establish for you tank what you want to target first, taking into considerations the plants you have and the uptake rate for them.

I intend to cut down on my dosing as I only have hairgrass and mosses and excess dosage seems to induce more algae than actual plant growth.
Is there a brand that is more costing saving beside Seachem?

Alternatively, you can use the liquified version sold as Aquascaping fertilizer. One product is seachem nitrogen you can buy at many LFS. Add your other DIY PMDD powder and complete it with commercial trace+fe mix (all sorts of brands available).

Another alternative is wonder-gro macro+ which readily contains all N-P-K in one. You can complete it off with the pair wonder-gro micro+ for the trace+fe mix. You can get these from mizuworld online store.

PMDD, in short, means 'Poor Man Dupla Drops'. Dupla is a premium brand of aquatic plant fertiliser made in Europe and the price is not cheap. It contains all macro and micro nutrients necessary for plants growth.

Because of the high price, and as most westerners were very innovative, they began to buy all the raw ingredients from hydroponics shops and DIY a cocktail with the exact proportion of the nutrients such as Potassium nitrate KN03 (to supply nitrate), 2- Potassium sulfate K2SO4 (to supply potassium), 3- Epson salts MgSO4+7H2O (to supply magnesium), 4- chelated trace mix (contains chelated iron as well as other micronutrients), 5- Monopotassium phosphate KH2PO4 (to supply phosphate), etc.

Many years ago, there were many foreign planted tank forums discussing about PPMD, notably, thekrib.com

But I guess PPMD is a time of the past as there are so many cheaper brands of trace going around in the market and it is more convenient to use them to avoid the hassle of brewing your own PPMD.

I'm using it for more than 4 years already... so far so good... Just a bottle less than a blue note will do. The plants are growing very healthy and algae free...

Yes you can, though it is better and advisable to dilute them beforehand for a faster distribution within a tank and to ensure better safety towards the inhabitants.

Fish tends to graze and instantly consider the bits of chemicals as food, though they usually do not die from attempt of eating as these chemicals dissolves quickly. However I'm sure it is not good at all.

good question, I'm also wondering what really inside the bottle fertilizer sell at LFS. Is it just a mix of KNO3, KH2PO4 and K2SO4 or some other secret ingredient
