All the methods you mention work. Personally I prefer boiling them. This method not only rid of the air being trapped but also cleanse it, along with it. it accelerates the leakage rate of tanic acid.
Hi to all,
I would like to ask if how you all treat your new driftwoods and shorten the time it float on water. (Normal driftwoods that can be bought from C328 and other lfs.)
1) Just put in water for 2 weeks
2) Boiled the driftwood for hours
3) Directly put the wood inside the tank and some rocks on top to prevent floating
4) Other methods...Please indicate
Thanks..![]()

I'm too lazy doing al that, usually just dump it in. Worst case I pour hot water to kill bacteria and fungal. If it is float, I put rock on top

You need a large pot to boil if your wood is really bigI just pour boiling water over it and stack it with stone to ground it.

Bro, directly put the wood inside the tank and tie rocks on the backor bottom of the driftwood to prevent floating.![]()
Boiling & soaking the driftwood for a number of days will allow the tanin inside these wood to be released, hence preventing your tank's water from appearing brownish... However, do note that even after boiling & soaking them... the driftwoods may still leak out a fair bit of tanin into the water in the tank over time... So may still have to perform water change if it happens...
Just my 5 cents' worth & based on my own experiences![]()
I usually planned setting up tanks 4-6 months in advance so things dont crop out . Soaking my driftwood for 9-12 weeks is done concurrently with growing foregrass emmerse form, so once that is ready, driftwood would be good to go.
The shortest time i did was a 1 week soak. 1st day boil, 2nd day bleach overnight, 3 days dechlorinated and dump in.
