use a toothbrush to comb the moss.
i find this an effective way to remove that.
Hi to all
I am trying out a x'mas moss wall for my tank but encounter lots of hair algae, they are like cobweb entangling with the moss which makes getting rid of them manually difficult.
Anyone any suggestions how to get rid of them besides using algaecide which I hope not to use.
I got 4 ottos, 8 yamatoes, 3 threeline pencilfish and a SAE for my algae prevention team.
Pls advise.

Are you feeding your fishes/shrimps? Starve them a few days, they may start munching on the algae more. More shrimps might help.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.

Me had the same problem with Xmas moss. Actually, the hair algae infested the whole tank. This is what I did:
1) Blackout method for 3 days
2) Water change 50% after that
3) Dosed K 20ppm to strengten plants
4) Manually remove algae with a toothbrush (easy and effective)
5) Increase lighting period from 7 to 8 hours
6) Increase CO2 injection to 3 bps
7) Maintain kH at 4 deg
I'm glad to say that the algae infestation is gone.
Im also facing this prob with my riccia. I think i will try the toothbrush method
Anyone experience algae that is dark green thin film like that covered the leaves and other surfaces? They can be easily peeled off by was wondering are there any other ways to get rid of them once and for all? Will Otos or SAEs help?
Thanks in advance!
Won't the moss also comes out when brushing?
