Type of Food???

Hi again everyone,

I recently heard my friend telling me to feed my fishes in the planted tank with fish food with the lowest phospate level possible.

What does the excess phospate do to the water condition??
Any one has any type of food to intro??

Excess phosphate is often associated with rampant algae growth, as higher plants will only absorbe the little they need, leaving the surplus to the algae. Most fish food contains some phosphates in any case, so the best practice is to feed sparingly, maybe once a day at most. Not feeding for up to a week is fine in a planted tank too. Also change water regularly.

i'm wondering how your friend knows which type of food contains more or less phosphates
unless you do, the idea of choosing the food with lowest P is of no merit
so, don't worry, just feed normal amounts and it's ok

On a side note though, manufactured food (flakes, tabs, etc) usually contain less phosphate then raw/live food (frozen blood worms, brine shrimp, etc).
