Here's my wild Tucano red pair. Relative young I think, male is only slightly more then an inch. But the ventral fins is really long

Currently housing them in seperate tank to beef them up first.

Diet include brine shrimp live and frozen, tubifex worms and NLS grow formula.

Got potential. Tubifex worm, ok. high risk = high return. trust me. fish fed with these worms all becomes "ang moh" size.

For me, I just buy 50 cents worth of tubifex, put them in a big pail full of water. Prior to that, rinse them thoroughly. Let the worms sit for more than 3 hours.. So far, for me, ok in terms of apisto. I used to have many eunotus babies, and i fed them with tubifex. growth really fast. no death.

However, i did not do it to my discus, because obviously they are more dear to me

Oh ya. This maybe urban legend - but when fishes are fed with tubifex worms since babies days.. they seem to be less affected by bacteria. However, don't try if they are already an adult because their body may not be built for wild food.

Most breeders use tubifex worms, because they are cheap and fast in growing babies.

    hi nicktc

a very nice fish you have there.

I bought 2 pairs of elizabethae from biotope's last shipment. They are doing well, however, the 2 males haves different shape tail - one is a spear shape (same as what you have) the other of another shape

    Is this normal for elizabethae?

I am not too sure as well. They are still relatively young fishes though.

I believe the tail will morph slightly.
