Tank you can get for around $18, 1FT
HOF/lights/soil as per woon suggestion, the most expensive of the setup is actually the plants. Low tech plants such as ferns arent exactly the cheapest, go for mosses and some fast growing stem plants, bacopa is a good candiate.

I've tried setting up my tank last nite and i believe i had done it wrongly and disturb the soil while adding water adn planting the plants...
last nite before i sleep, the water is very murky... and this morning i woke up its not even better...
should i chnge the water or activate the filter ? its a 1ft tank.
will the plants die because of the murky water ? and i also notice there's soil particles settling on the plants leaves....
you should activate the filter yesterday night to let the particles being suck into the filter.
the current of the filter will blow away the dust on the leaves.
change half or more of the water if you have the time now, or just let the filter work

usually how long will it take to see clear water if i on the filter ? its a 1ft tank, with flowrate 220l/h

did a 50% water change last night, the water did clear up a bit, but still cloudy... not as bad as on wednesday night.
I notice the filter media (wool) is brownish, is it because of this, the filtration is not so good, thus the water is still cloudy?
However, the soil particle still kinda stuck to the leaves, instead of greenish leaves, i seeing browish leaves with the layer of particles...
should i just leave it like that way and wait for the filter to do the job or use something like a wooden chopstick to carefully brush it off the leaves ?
and i havent start dosing the liquid ferts (seachem) cause the water hasnt clear yet....

I am not sure which substrate you are using but most of us with either ada or gex gets crystal clear water after planting in less than 5 hours to slightly about a day.
I diyed a small chopstick to the siphon tube matched up with a small sponge to clean off mulm and algae off plants and the tank glass. Might want to do likewise.
hmm, i have a question, will mozzie breed in the tank?
im having a hang on filter and the water level is below the outlet, so there's a constant wave on the surface of water.
and also, the water has started to clear, guess the BB is starting to kick in.
unlikely, as mosquitos only breeds in stagnant water. I have 2 boraras in the tank to take them out should they even try something so stupid
Free live food for the fishes if the mosquitos breed in there too!

I am new too. It seem Mickey15 is on progress, cool.
Currently I have a 2ft tank and wi[ould like to convert it to planted tank. Dont know if that is what you call them. I mean I am keen to convert it to a eco system fish tank with many plants and small fishes.
Dont really know what to buy and use currently but will try to see thru the forum here first. Hope fellow bro can help
Aged water keep so long can breed mozzies unless you agitated it some how. Why keep so long? For me I would hesitate to use it not sure what in the water.

aged 1 mth still can use why not?
if the concern is breeding mozzies or unwanted debris, then just cover the pail up
i use pails that comes with a cover to age water
all covered up so no fear of mozzies or unwanted debris getting into the water
