    Hi All,

I just want to share my first humble, low tech CRS tank setup. I setup this tank about 1 month ago.

    Initial setup:

The rubber band and the piece of cloth there is to prevent my baby CRS from being sucked into the filter

After a bit of rescaping on 08 July 2008:
I spent about 3 hrs plus to do this rescaping. I wanted to hide the ugly filter pipe so I started to break my reddish brown "volcanic" rock (sry, I don't know what it is called) into pieces and then use a glue gun to glue them together. After which, I tried to stuff the little gaps with weeping moss and some have to stapled on to the rock. I hope that once the moss starts to grow, it will hold on to the rock. The ground messes are called "Feng wei", I don't what it is called in English (sry for that) and those hanging are more weeping moss.

While I was rescaping, I find more little CRS baby! I hope I did not murder any of them. My pair of snails (one yellow & the other orange) is also giving birth to more than 6 baby snails!

I hope to get in better grade CRS soon.

    Please comment. Thanks

    Hi Route,

I have not gotten a thermometer yet. Will let you know again once I get it. I guess the temperature is already 28 degree celsius in the day and at night it should be around 23 - 25 cos they "sleep" with me in my air con room which i usually switched to 23 degree..haa

water is usually cooler than surounding temperature, so you might get 21 degree instead of 23 at night

I would suggest to reduce the temperature flunctuations. 3 to 5C, in my opinion is too much for CRS.

I don't what is the actual temperature but seem like the CRS & snails like it as they are already spawning now. I even put ice in my tank to top up the water lose throught evaporation!

I can see a few CRS babies & also more that 6 baby snails.

Just bought a digital thermometer from one of the bro here. The current temperature for my tank is 26.5 without air-con & fan.

Thanks, actually I bought the weeping moss from one of the bro here. What I did was to "transfer" some of them to the reddish brown "rocky" mountain. ha I hope it will grow out to be really nice as your mentioned.

"Feng wei" is Fissidens. As for the actual species, post a close up of the plant.

Do you intend to remove the staples in the short term? Having metal (other than stainless steel) is not a good idea. But the way you apply it is rather original

I would like too once the weeping moss starts to cling on the rock but I dun think there will be any problem if it is not removed. It will slowly rusted off.

Volcanic rock is soft and very easy to scape to any shape .
