You might want to measure some of the water's parameters. It's too vague to spot any problems. More information might let us know more about your condition.

Hi I bought 6 young tiger barbs 1 week ago and I discovered today all but 1 started to fade in colour, as if there is a layer of film on their body. Other than that they looked healthy and eating properly. What's wrong with them?
I heard tiger barb's colour tend to fade as they get older, but it can't be so soon right...

More information regarding your tank setup please, accompanied with some pictures if possible.
mine's a simple non Co2 1 foot planted tank with ADA. plants are pretty standard ones. other than the 6 tiger barbs, I have 2 panda cory and 2 siamese algae eaters. hope this is sufficient info.

I can't help u much.. but I had faded barbs which regained its color after a few months before.
I don't know why the color was lost, and why it returned.
So..I would not worry too much... and just ensure water parameters are ok... including Nitrates.
The fading colours may or may not be related to this, but aggression could be a problem.
Housing them in a small tank is going to increase the stress factor as these barbs need huge swimming space. A larger tank like 2 feet (for juveniles) or 3 feet (for adults) would be greatly appreciated.
thanks for the tips. the barb's colour seemed to have returned without me doing much, except my weekly water change
seems like its the water quality that affected the barb's colour. everytime I have a water change, the colour returns and it fades again after 3-4 days. Nevertheless, don't think I'll increase the weekly water change routine.
3 out of 4 corys didn't survive the tiger barb attack. what small bottom dwellers can I keep together with these barbs? my tank is only 1 ft. currently I have 2 SAEs. will loaches survive?
yes loaches are generally hardy once they settle in.
On the other hand, you might want to check your filtration.
This is to ensure your tank is fully cycled and ammonia and nitrite are at zero always.
