    Hi,

I got a greenspotted puffers. Recently 1 of the puffers developed something like a lump on it's side near to the mouth, below the eye. It is red/pinkish... then later it just like 'tear' up, rotten. Then it died.
what causes this? water or food? and what is this disease? How to prevent and cure?

    Thanks.

Looks something like cotton wool? If so, that would be fungus.

Regardless, green spotted puffer, Tetraodon nigroviridis is not a freshwater but brackish water fish. Keeping them in freshwater long term will result in illness and disease prone.

    Hi,

Thanks for your info. Will look into brackish water for the greenspotted puffer.
How about mini puffers? can they survive in freshwater? or they need brackish water as well?

    Thanks.

Mini Puffers should be safe for fresh water, I had one living my planted tank for approximately 3 months now...active still..

I would prefer to call them dwarf puffers instead of mini puffers. Anyway, here is a list of freshwater vs brackish water puffers commonly available in the trade.

    Freshwater
    Carinotetraodon travancoricus, dwarf puffer
    Carinotetraodon irrubesco, Red-tail dwarf puffers
    Tetraodon miurus, Congo puffer

    Freshwater (but can tolerate brackish)
    Colomesus asellus, South American puffer
    Tetraodon cutcutia, Sea frog puffer
    Tetraodon leiurus, Target puffer
Tetraodon lineatus, Fahaka or Nile puffer
    Tetraodon mbu, Giant African puffer
    Tetraodon pustulatus, Football puffer

    Brackish
    Tetraodon nigroviridis, Green spotted puffer
    Tetraodon biocellatus, Figure-8 puffer
    Tetraodon fluviatilis, Ceylon puffer
Takifugu ocellatus, Orange-spotted or peacock fugu
