Recent acquired a pair of pugnax for a school tank, but after a week in the tank, they both ended up dead after a long weekend. Water readings were 0ppm for Ammonia, nitrites, pH at 6.5, average temperature at 31deg. (Outdoor tank >_<)

When I came back from the 3 day weekend - there was a massive algae bloom - GBA forest sort of thing. I cleaned that out and found one of them dead. I did a 40% water change then.

I ended up with another dead today. Sad... Any idea why this could have happened? I thought betta pugnax were hardy...

    two possible causes!
    nitrate poisoning or high temperature.
but i feel more likely to be the latter.
    how old was the tank?
    ONLY Blue Zebras.

About 3 weeks, actually. It was seeded with filter media and bacteria pills. But... Bettas are indigenous to the region, meaning tank water can get as warm as normal stream water? Unless the flowing water actually reduces the temperature...? I've no idea -.- /city girl. Anyway, decided not to buy any more pugnax as they're expensive and I hate dead expensive fish. Went for 3 spot gourami which I think has a better chance of survival since my croaking gourami are doing well in the tank.
