You mean canister filter?
why don't you state your tank specs
easier for others then to make a proper recommendation of the model to use

Hi Mike,
It's not as bad as you think, since most people wouldn't post in the forum telling others how well their canister filters are working for them.![]()

Actually, I'm do even encounter hang-on-filter leaking water...![]()
For preventive measures, I now place two of my canister filter inside different Toyogo container so that any leaking will first be collected by the container.![]()
over head filters is also external. But personally I prefer those that are placed on the floor type.
Hi Fellow Aquarists,
Besides the LEAKING problem, can we also comment about the Filtration Efficiency of the differents type of system available? HangOn, External (on the floor), Internal, Under Gravel, etc. What is the Total Cost of OwnerShip for each kind of filter system? Lets say for a standard 3 ft tank, ok?
Thank you!

well.. I prefer external because, at least when I clean the filter, I do not have a problem of dirt falling back into the tank
(I have Eheim 2010 and Eheim 202
both are silent.
I have a 2feet tank....
ya, like what 1 of the aquarists asked, what is the efficiency of the filteration of the different types of filters. Is canister type better than hangon?
Thanks![]()
Cannister is the choice of most planted tank owners because there's usually less splashing compared to hang-ons. Although the same could be said for internal filters, with internal filters you will find that you actually have less 'usable' space in your tank.
The other benefit of canister is that it actually increases your total volume, and in aquariums, the larger the volume, the more stable the tank is, but this added volume is actually only a little.
Canister will be second (or third) best when it comes to maintenance, I would say that hang-on top filters are the easiest...
Hope this helps.
