    Hi hi

anyone knows which LFS have small lobster? I'm helping my friend setting up her tank and she's thinking of putting lobster. But I did not notice any small lobsters recently... or was I not looking hard enough?

    Several things you should know:

    1. They're crayfish. Lobsters are saltwater.
    2. They eat plants when they're hungry so plant densely and keep the pop low.
    3. They breed easily so PLEEEEASE don't release the babies into the wild. They're australian, not singaporean. Which means they'll kill our native shrimp.
    4. C328 or any of the farms sell them.

    And welcome to AQ

Ting, over at C328 you can find at least 4-5 different coloured crayfish. And they come in small sizes too which I think your friend would appreciate.
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.

    Hi Ting,

    Welcome to Aquatic Quotient.

Do make sure your friend read up more about their care and maintenance before getting one. Otherwise, it might be difficult to give away when she change her mind.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

    Cheers,
Well, if they get big enough you could always eat them. Quite a few buffet places have crayfish on the menu these days.

    Thanks guys

Does the crayfish need big area?

Hmm, I'm trying to influence my friend to go planted tank. But now she only wanna start with a nano tank... I think it'll be better to go for some mini plants and a few cardinals rite?

Crayfish don't need big area, they just need lots of hiding places. You can always use PVC pipes, mugs, flower pots or anything suitable as hiding place for them.

Crayfish, aka freshwater lobsters, tend to destroy plant so I won't advise you on keeping them in your planted tank.

And to clarify futher, those that breed easily are known as the "common blue" which is the cheapest kind of lobsters out there, roughly abt $1 per piece.

I will advise anyone who wants to keep lobsters to try this species first, because they are really hardy. They need minimal filtration and aeration, and they can stand 100% tap water change. Of course, the price is very affordable.

Those who don't want to pay for these lobsters can go fish for them in the ponds, eg Bishan pond, Punggol pond. You can often find people fishing for them.

Lol then just fish for them. It's good for the environment considering those buggers are a pest species. That and they taste great when BBQed with butter... *slurp*

lol there is only so little meat in a decent size lobster, waste the butter only

but i saw those old uncles fishing like a big box full of them once, think they are all going to end up as food.

These recipies work perfectly with Cherax quadricanatus But remember to detox the buggers first. They taste MUCH better after they've sat in a pail of clean water for 24hrs.

just a note, some crayfish will attack small fish as extra nourishment.

my friend had one that was so fierce it ate all his guppies and eventually his betta... not joking.

better not mix with cardinals and neons...

recommended tank size for crayfish are 10 gallons per cray, at least ofr north

american species. there are some who require at least 20-30 gallons each.

there alot more to cray fish keeping then meets the eye. so i would suggest

your friend to seriously do deep research before making the plunge.
